I work with light in graphics, compare and embody in my works the common essence of opposite elements. I collide light and shadow, which cannot exist without each other. Distant or close, warm or cold – the light in my paintings is always a guide. For the invisible characters in the picture, for the viewer, for myself.
The theme of loneliness often appears in my works. In the hectic modern world, among the bustle, the search for oneself, the whirlwind of everyday affairs and problems, we still remain alone. But no matter how scary and lonely it is around, there is always a bright window of hope. A home where they love and wait.
Now, in this difficult time, it is especially important to be together. It is important to tell and show people that they are not alone, that even if someone is left alone, the warm light of home is always waiting for them.
My work, conditionally, can be divided into several directions, each of which has its own history and meaning.
In the beginning there was a small town in which I hid from the rhythm and complexities of the big city. Quiet, bright, the only colors were the Red tile roofs, the Green of the foliage and the Blue sky. I called it "White Town". For a long time it was the main theme of my work. With its help, I was able to slow down in the craziness world of people, loud sounds and smells, bustles. So, among worries, I drawing calm.
At the same time as the White Town, I painted interiors. An "Inner Spaces". It was also a way to escape from reality and linger in the moment. In addition, working with interiors develops attentiveness and a sense of proportions.
The choice of graphic techniques is also not accidental. Graphics require complete immersion in careful work with details. It requires full attention. At the same time, graphic work does not require lengthy preparation of canvases, palettes, paints and brushes. You can draw in the moment. In conditions of constant workload, this is very important. And you can draw on any material that comes to hand.
But working with graphics requires a flatness. And this limits the artist to only two dimensions. I needed the third thing — I have a very good spatial imagination. And after many attempts, I found a way to break out of the plane without giving up graphics. I developed a technique of multi-layer pictures. Over time I added lights to them.
Light is one of my favorite techniques in graphics. In my cities, especially fairy-tale ones, there is always a bright window or lantern against the backdrop of dark landscapes. In multi-layer pictures, light plays a special independent pictorial role. It transforms the picture so much that it creates an independent graphic canvas. When the lights are turned on in my “Alive Pictures”, they almost cease to be graphics and become lightpainting.
In some works, a bright window is transformed into a landmark, a ray of hope, in others it is an explosion of emotions.
Many of my works are the result of experiments with techniques and materials. Over time, I began to combine graphic techniques with painting. Color begins to join linear graphics in my pictures. And I continue to create new canvases, move forward. And up to the sun!
